Today I found myself wondering, “What would happen if he started liking me back and things went south with his girlfriend?” What would happen? For one thing, I do not want to be the kind of girl…

Lately I have been seeing a lot of familiar faces from high school at work. Being a popular ice cream parlor, that is no surprise. I should have been better prepared for all the college talk, though.

Izzy is gone. Remember my last post? That day after work, I got a phone call from my younger sister (which NEVER happens, so I knew something was up), asking me to come home soon, so that all us…

I am heading into work in a few short minutes, but I wanted to blog before I leave. Things seem shakey with the whole rent thing - even IJ does not know if he will be able to make the $215 monthly…

Yesterday, Mom, Trisha, Reggie, and I drove to Oceanside South Pier Beach. We got there around 1 P.M. (so late, right? Not really, it was perfect timing!) and wow, boy, was it crowded! There was a…

Ever since I introduced my niece to the song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua, she has sung it constantly, much to my older sister’s dismay *smirk*. Here’s the two of us butchering part of the song:

Freshly discovered the love of lobster
I have eaten lobster before (Lobster Newburg, Lobster Pie, etc.), but never straight from the shell, and I have to say, I am now a lover of lobster! There is just something so exciting and thrilling about having to work to eat your lobster — learning how to crack its shell and get its meat, pulling out the claw meat perfectly … Lobster is definitely a special occasion.
The only bad...
My SD RnR Race Photos - Bib #11635 →
I finished a marathon :). Click the link above for photos.
(OK, and granted, I did stop and stand on the finishing mat, but I swear I thought I had crossed it and was done! I am telling you, I was so disoriented by then I did not know what I was doing exactly … in and out of it).
My San Diego Rock 'N' Roll Marathon Race Report...
I did it. I am officially a marathoner. On Sunday, May 31, 2009, I debuted at the San Diego Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon and came in at 4:36:52. It was a tough course and by far the toughest thing I have ever done in my life. I am so ecstatic and proud to have finished, though, considering that a year ago I could not run a mile and I weighed 166.8 pounds. I would never have started running without...

OK, so I should admit something here . . .
From the influx of postings and spike in craziness that is known as "taper madness" on Runnersworld.com's forums, came this gem. I laughed my arse off.
This is kwikkchik's confession to the California running community (she, like me, is a newbie to the forums).
Kwikkchik: After waffling for days, I've finally committed to attending the FE. Now, I have to come clean . . . I'm really nervous about meeting everyone.
I'm not quite sure why I feel this way, as I'm usually fairly outgoing and gregarious. Maybe it's because I'm not a *real* runner like most of the rest of you? Or because I'm not a young pup (even though I feel like one except when the mirror reminds me to the contrary.)
Anyway, there it is. So go easy on me, OK?
A fellow forumite replies.
Amuse: I'd say you're right to be scared. Aside from the reasons you mentioned (which are all about you...I mean, who's really interested), here are some things to ponder:
(1) The people at the FE spend a lot of time posting on the internet. This means that they are socially awkward, potentially stalker types, and they're unlikely to represent themselves accurately (i.e. hillcruiser's famous usage of decades-old avatar photos). Expect numerous fatties with pocket protectors!
(2) People, in general, are mean. CA Forum people are particularly mean. Plus, there's a chance of a Spandex appearance, in which case blood will be spilled.
(3) The whole FE thing is a myth anyway. smd has a racket with the local mafia attracting less savvy people into a nice Italian restaurant (Front!) where they are promptly robbed, ransomed (if the payoff seems big enough), or put into some sort of indentured servitude.
(4) Charlie is the worst one.
(5) I forgot the rest, but they're all really important and at least as scary.
I found these next responses to be very amusing, too.
Smurfcore: It's all good, Kwikkchick- I was scared poopless at my first and only one. Made worse because I got there late-- and I was the one organizing it! It was post-race even and I was just like *doot doot doot* Who are you people?
I'm going to RULE at the next one, though... because likely I'll be the only one not racing so I can get CRAPHAMMERED and show you all my cheerleading moves.
Seriously, you'll have a blast, but I understand that it is monumentally intimidating. Everyone had a "first FE," so we've all been there.
Hillcruiser: I didn't enjoy my only FE. It was very confusing and intimidating. Most of the people already knew each other and ignored me, then made me sit right across from the meanest one - the one with snake eyes. One of them suggested I order the pad thai when she knew full well that it was very spicey and sure to add ten minutes to my marathon time the next morning. Another one of the forumites sitting right next to me made a scene with the waiter about cucumbers and deliberately put me right in the middle of it. I won't make the mistake of going to another FE again. San Diego's going to be even more crazy, with at least three times as many people. No thanks.
Short on Sleep
I think I’m feeling sleep-deprived (=.=)” … I’m in bed by 9:30, up by 5:00 … But my sleeping is just out of whack this week. I NEED to get some solid rest for the next three nights!
… Race day is drawing closer!
Countdown . . .
2 more days until Barb and Pete fly in. 3 more days until San Diego Rock N Roll Health and Fitness Expo and FE*. 4 more days until San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon. 7 more days until I leave with the McDaniels Clan, Skye, and my aunt and uncle for Shaver Lake. Then, 12 days from now, we come back from our camping trip.
Once we get back and get settled, I am signing up on the bone marrow registry...
Memorial Day Weekend Recap
On Saturday, I went into work for a few hours. It’s always nice to see the lobsters strong and full of fighting spirit, but it can get aggravating when they resist too much … I like to catch them quickly more than I like having to chase them around the tanks with a rake. Later I did 6 miles at a 9:32 average pace with Skye and my aunt at Miramar Lake. The first few miles felt a bit tough...
San Diego Rock N Roll
Nine more days, NINE MORE DAYS! It’s crazy. I can’t believe I’m going to be running my first marathon in nine days. That’s next Sunday! Oh em gee …
I signed up for SD RnR about a month ago. At the time I was coming off a training cycle, but I had been using it to build base mileage for a Fall marathon, St. George, which I thought would be my first. When my aunt...

Fourth post: Just a quickie
Five weeks. I can’t believe that’s all that is left of the semester. My head kind of spins when I think about everything I have yet to do — studying for finals, job searching, figuring out what my major is going to be, registering for summer Spanish courses … GEH. The good news, though, is that I’m close to being done with my research paper. I scheduled an appointment...
Third post: Susceptible to compulsion
Today I actively sought out and found a downloadable Microsoft Excel 97 running log template online. I did this after updating my personally (and poorly) made last month’s log, and I thought to myself, “I know there is better out there,” so I found myself a good log. It records, calculates, graphs, and updates (based on the data you input) your average pace per mile, monthly...

Second post: A brief update
So, I lied (please forgive me). My dentist appointment is actually on Thursday, not Wednesday. I’m going to call their office today and see if they can fit me in for a sealant, too, right after my regular cleaning. I know the receptionist wrote down “Tentative Sealant,” but the call will let her know that I’m serious about getting the sealant done.
This is part of...

First post: Let the thoughts flow.
I have two friends of mine to thank for steering me towards Tumblr blogging. Although I don’t know if I will stay and stick with it (I like the idea of having one blog, even if I rarely update it), I will try it out. Sometimes it’s nice to have separate blogs for different purposes … My only nagging thought is that having two blogs means more time spent blogging. LOL! And I...
